Bruce Willis Returns as John McClane in a Die Hard themed Battery Commercial
Actor De’voreaux White and Clarence Gilyard will also appear in the mini-movie spot, reprising their characters Argyle and Theo, respectively.
John McClane is back. Bruce Willis has been seen again in the iconic avatar of John McClane in an epic Advance Auto Parts DieHard battery commercial. Have you seen that spot? If you haven’t, please look it up on YouTube. It’s nostalgic, if not legendary.

The commercial debuted during America’s Game of the Week premiere on Fox, which featured a match between Green Bay and Tampa Bay. The two-minute-long commercial had everything you can expect from a Die Hard film, intense action, John McClane’s charisma, and a reunion of all the characters from the 1988 epic. Both Argyle and Theo can be seen in the commercial, which is nothing but an overwhelming dose of nostalgia for the fans.
The making of such a commercial has been attributed to October being National Car Care Month.
Bruce Willis made a statement in which he said that though he had not done any commercial as John McClane, he found the idea of integrating DieHard battery and Die Hard movie quite enjoyable. The reason why he agreed to do the commercial because the short film that was written as a commercial ad was very authentic to the John McClane character as well as for both the brands in question.
Advance approached the commercial like a motion picture and had a clear cut plan from the beginning, which consisted of a brilliant script, intense shooting, and an entertaining spot. Willis knew for a fact that fans would love the spot and wished that Advance should try “Die Hard-DieHard mashup” again.
He added that he always had fun with the character while he was doing the film, and he really appreciated Advance’s efforts to also bring De’voreaux and Clarence on the table.
The executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Advance Auto Parts, Jason McDonell, called the DieHard film-themed commercial as “irresistible.”
He added that their plan was to transcend the notion of an advertisement and not to look for a price and product themed monotonous commercial but instead focus on an emotional connect with the consumers that will naturally draw them towards buying their product.
The first Die Hard film came out in 1988, which saw Bruce Willis in the avatar of John McClane for the first time. Bruce Willis and Die Hard remained pop culture icons throughout the ’90s-courtesy of the subsequent sequels titled Die Hard 2 (1992) and Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995).
The franchise made a dazzling return in 2007 with the fourth film, “Live Free or Die Hard.” The 2007 film was followed by a rather underwhelming 2013 film “A Good Day to Die Hard.”
However, a sixth film in the franchise has been planned whose title has been changed from “Die Hard: Year One” to “McClane.”
Willis was last seen in the M. Night Shyamalan’s film Glass alongside Samuel L Jackson, James McAvoy, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Willis reprised his role as David Dunn as the film was a direct sequel of his 2000 film Unbreakable. McAvoy also appeared in his “Split” character named Kevin Wendell Crumb (a violent and troubled young man suffering from at least 23 personality disorders). Samuel L Jackson played the titular character and was the mastermind behind all the events in the film.
Many fans are alluding to the fact that the new commercial might well be a bit from the upcoming 6th Die Hard film (McClane).
