A Dialogue from The Avengers Influenced the Upcoming Black Widow Movie

It took an awful amount of time, but finally, we have a Black Widow solo movie, a movie which we all have been waiting for.

However, the wait has been stretched because of the pandemic that introduced itself to the world in March. The movie originally slated for the May release has been delayed twice, and now it hopes it will have no issue with the May 2021 release (a year-long delay). Marvel fans have been patient, though, as they believe a delayed film is better than no film.

The origins of the idea behind the Black Widow solo movie can be traced back to as early as 2004, back when Lionsgate had ownership over the Black Widow character. The project never took off as the IP rights were transferred back to Marvel in 2006. Things remained low-key before the character Black Widow made an appearance in the second installment of Iron Man 2 as the agent Natasha Romanoff.

Despite being an integral part of the MCU storyline, nobody was taking the character seriously, of course, up until the point the 2012 film Avengers was released. Apparently, the film did not only put the entire franchise at the threshold of something remarkable, but it had given away a foreshadowing, which ultimately influenced the first movie in the fourth phase of the MCU.

The Avengers had an unimportant line, which was understandably overlooked by many fans, but apparently, it did inspire the entire plot of the upcoming movie.

We are talking about the concluding act of the film where the Avengers were reeling to save New York City from Loki and the Chitauri soldiers.

“Just like Budapest all over again,” Romanoff had said to Hawkeye.

“You and I remember Budapest very differently,” Hawkeye had made a snarky remark as a reply.

Other than few voices demanding an explanation, the dialogue had vanished from pop-culture talks until, of course, it has resurfaced recently courtesy of Scarlett Johansson’s interview in which she had confirmed that the Budapest line referenced in the first Avengers film has massively influenced the story of the upcoming film “Black Widow.”

She talked about her upcoming film in Marvel’s Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book in which she remarked that if the studio does not get back to that reference, the fans might feel a sense of dissatisfaction, and nobody wants that to happen. Don Jon actress said that they all had agreed that the obscure change of words between Romanoff and Hawkeye must be explored in detail, and the Black Widow movie is an obvious opportunity to do that.

Johansson had added that the events in Budapest did play a big part in defining the persona of Romanoff as there was some guilt that had stayed with her in the aftermath.

Johansson explains that the guilt they are going to explore in the movie has stemmed from some unfinished business that she had left behind in Budapest. The lead actress of the movie was quick to point out that her upcoming film isn’t about the events of Budapest. It is actually a character study of Natasha Romanoff and the burden that is eating her soul because of a thing she couldn’t do in Budapest.

The film “Black Widow” will arrive on the big screen in May 2021. The film will begin the saga of Phase 4, which will be further explored in the later films.
