“His Dark Materials” Has Been Ordered for Another Season at HBO and BBC
The fantasy show “His Dark Materials,” which has recently aired its second season, has been ordered for another season by HBO and the BBC.
This is good news for the fans as they were apprehensive about the renewal since the television rating points for the show in America is quite low compared to its performance in the United Kingdom. So, fans in the United Kingdom (and those who watched it in the US) were worried whether HBO would walk out of the partnership.

However, it hasn’t been the case, and the show has been renewed for another season. The show is a product of the joint partnership between HBO and BBC, and they are both in agreement that there must be another season for the show.
The third season will be the ultimate season, and it will conclude the onscreen adaptation of a saga based on the fantasy novels written by Philip Pullman. The show has remained quite honest with the books, so it was logical, if not inevitable, that “His Dark Materials” will be given a chance to relay the events that happened in the final book of the saga “The Amber Spyglass.”
“The Amber Spyglass is the final book in the trilogy penned by the veteran writer.
As stated by the scriptwriter of the show Jack Thorne, the final season of the show will be relayed in eight episodes. The production of the final season will take place in Cardiff, most likely in early 2021.
Francesca Orsi, the Executive Vice President at HBO Programming, has made a statement regarding it, saying that it has been a privilege for HBO to relay an on-screen adaptation of extremely well written and culturally rich novels of Philip Pullman. She also thanked the studio’s partners at BBC and especially mentioned the name of Jane Tranter for the untiring work that has been put on to create the first two seasons. She added that now the whole team is looking forward to concluding the story.
Ben Irving from BBC also made a statement regarding the renewal and said that he is glad that their work has brought such joy to the lives of British people who have helped boost up the ratings of both BBC One and BBC iPlayer. He added that the TV adaptation has seen both the old fans of Pullman’s work and also the new ones who have been overjoyed with the enthralling journey of Will and Lyra. He also said that the BBC is looking forward to the production of the third season and added that the BBC is grateful to the partners at HBO and the exceptionally creative people at Bad Wolf. Without them, the series wouldn’t have existed.
Irving expressed his anticipation that the trilogy series will be continuously watched by the British audience for the years to come and hopes that BBC will always be there to entertain them.
You may expect the third season of “His Dark Materials” to arrive on BBC One and HBO in 2022.
